Outfielder Manny Ramirez looking to sign with Oakland Athletics for next season – MLB News
Outfielder free agent Manny Ramirez is quite near signing a potential deal with the Oakland Athletics after retiring from baseball due to the controversial Performance Enhancing Drugs (PED) charges that circulated around him.
Recently some media reports have come out in which several baseball pundits along with current baseball executives in MLB and franchises are speculating that former Tampa Bay Rays’ star might play for the Athletics next season.
After this news broke in the media, several journalists started searching from inside the A’s management as to whether this speculation is true. In response to media questions, the A’s assistant general manager David Forst stated in a press conference, “We’re open to it, we do have other things going on at the moment too, and we expect other additions between now and Opening Day. We have never been in a situation where we had too many good players.”
Later, A’s manager Bob Melvin expressed in the media about potential arrival of Ramirez. He said, “I think at this point it’s probably still speculation, there’s probably some momentum to it, but certainly not anything that I’m in position right now to comment on. I never actually met him.”
Earlier, A's outfielder Josh Reddick also said, “But to have a veteran hitter like Manny, That experience can only help us.”
Manny Ramirez is a talented player and currently two to three top Major League teams are pursuing him. Before PED charges were proven correct, Ramirez was considered one of the best players ever produced by the MLB in decades. But not only was his credibility questioned as the PED case came out in the media but the League also banned him for almost 100 Major League games.
Though with his taking retirement in middle of the season and his later reinstatement by MLB worked as a healing period for himself and the fans. Ramirez will be hoping that he can redeem his reputation by joining Oakland and showing the world that he is tremendously talented. It will be interesting to see if Manny signs with the A's and whether or not the fans have forgiven him for his past indiscretions.
