Outfielder Manny Ramirez might play another season in the majors – MLB News
Major League outfielder and current free agent Manny Ramirez, who is recently reinstated by the MLB as he earlier has taken retirement from the game after testing positive for using PED, might play another season with the Oakland Athletics.
A’s assistant general manager David Forst stated in a press conference on late Monday evening at the Athletics’ annual FanFest that,
“We’re open to it, we do have other things going on, and we expect other additions between now and Opening Day. We have never been in a situation where we had too many good players.”
Later, A’s manager Bob Melvin also said, “I think at this point it’s probably still speculation, there’s probably some momentum to it, but certainly not anything that I’m in position right now to comment on.”
“I never actually met him," A's outfielder Josh Reddick said. "But to have a veteran hitter like Manny? That experience can only help us.”
Ramirez is considered one of the all time best players in the Major League. Achieving over 500 career home-runs, Ramirez is among 25 players who have hit 500 homers.
Playing for the Cleveland Indians along with Boston Red Sox, Los Angeles Dodgers, Chicago White Sox and Tampa Bay Rays, Ramirez’s career turned upside down when he tested positive for human chorionic gonadotropin (hCG). This particular drug is a women's fertility drug that is generally used for restarting the natural testosterone production following a steroid cycle.
Not only was he found guilty, but the MLB authorities took strict action and banned him from playing 100 Major League games, but this late humiliation led Ramirez to call it a day to his professional baseball career. Later, he requested the MLB to grant him reinstatement status to resume his career that was accepted as well.
Now, Manny Ramirez has been given permission to particpate again, many Major League teams have potentially offered him to play for them but the Athletics are somewhat more excited signing him. Though, no official news has come out in the media yet but experts believe that next few days are critical as Manny Ramirez’s potential signing will be revealing in the media.
