Outfielder Torii Hunter seems thrilled to remain with Los Angeles Angels – MLB Update
Los Angeles Angels’ outfielder Torii Hunter seemed thrilled after speculations hit in the media that he might be given another potential contract.
Hunter, whose current contract expires in October, will be receiving a new multi-year deal due to his good late performances in this particular Major League Baseball season.
"I feel that they want me back, but at the same time, things have to align, If they align, I think I have a very good chance of remaining with this organization," Hunter said.
Hunter added, "It feels good to know they're trying, They told me they want me back. I'm honored. I'm very grateful."
Hunter currently is playing with an average of .305 along with 15 homers, 84 RBIs and .357 OBP. His good performances have landed many victories to the Angels.
Angels’ general manager Jerry Dipoto was the first man in the organisation who somewhat publically admitted the hard-work Torii put in this particular season.
He praised his contribution which certainly provided a comfortable place to the Angels’ this year as it will also help them in their hopes for a potential postseason spot.
Angels with 83-69 win-loss and .546 winning percentage are fighting hard with one place ahead the Oakland Athletics.
Dipoto also knows that Hunter’s five year deal with the Angels is expiring and if they did not re-sign him, his potential replacement will hurt the franchise.
Hunter knows the Angels environment and has been playing with consistency after coming from Minnesota Twins in 2007.
According to experts, he will get a new deal which will benefit him and the Angels at the same time.
Meanwhile, the Angels are also busy making changes within the roster. Recently Ernesto Frieri has lost the closer job due to his poor performances.
“His last couple of outings haven't been as crisp, The back end of the bullpen is fragile. Ernie is going to get the ball in important situations, whether it's the eighth or ninth. When you're matching up, those outs in eighth are as important as the ones in ninth," skipper Mike Scioscia said of Frieri.
Currently he is playing with a 2.52 ERA along with 20 saves 95 strike-outs and 1.05 WHIP.
