Outfielders Peter Bourjos and Denard Span may be taken by Miami Marlins through trade-MLB Update
Need for having acrobatic outfielders brings the Miami Marlins to a point of thinking over trade options. A vast Marlins new ballpark, which imposes greater work on fielders to cover the ground and make better plays, two centre fielders Peter Bourjos and
Denard Span are being considered for acquisition. The fact both of them belong to teams which have ballparks nearly as vast as the Marlins is a positive sign that they can fit the needs of the club.
Span currently is playing as an outfielder for the Minnesota Twins, whereas Peter Bourjos is with the Los Angeles Angels. One of the factors that are motivating the Marlins for trade is the injury by Emilio Bonifacio, who is the briskest player in the team.
Since Bonifacio is out from the season until at least the All-Star break due to a thumb injury, Marlins cannot leave their outfield at risk for a longer period of time.
There is no official deal yet inked. However, there are genuine indications that the club has shown interest in acquiring these players.
Bourjos is reliable as an out-fielder as his impatience on the plate makes him a potential weak-link in the line-up. Yet, in relative terms, his on-base-percentage in the season is not entirely abysmal, which stands at .274.
While apparently trade will be an ideal for the club given their requirements at the moment, it remains to be seen as to at what cost will it be. Will the ultimate outcome is going to be worse than this is not yet known.
Regardless of this, Span brings a lot of promise with his hitting credentials. The fact he holds better batting record than Bonifacio in number of ways makes him a reasonable option to go after.
Although, he cannot strike a slew of homers in one game, he is known for creating run-manufacturing opportunities.
Thus far, he has contributed 18 RBIs in the season and maintained a .284 batting average, along with a .350 on-base-percentage.
Generally, the Marlins’ manager Ozzie Guillen has been against the idea of trading in the season. It will be interesting to see how he reacts to current proposition. Whatever the cost is going to be, one thing is for sure that it will not take much time
for these two players to reflect their impact on the team.
