I can give you some of the major disadvantages, and I'll leave the advantage section for those who actually buy what psychodynamic theory has to offer.

Freudian theory:

  1) Cannot be empirically or objectively tested.

  2) Was based on case studies of middle-aged, upper middle-class women only.  Therefore, it has little reliability and validity.

  3) Has not shown to be any more helpful in a therapeutic setting than any other method or school.

  4) And, of course, even Freud himself indicated that he may not fully believe his own theory.  Quote, "Sometimes a cigar is just a cigar."

That isn't exactly ready to be copied and pasted into an essay, but it should give you a good start.
