  1. Genetic variation or modification of bacteria is made possible in three ways namely transformation, transduction and conjugation. The first type is the uptake of naked DNA from the surrounding including a culture medium. The second is the transfer of the genetic material with the aid of phages (virus infecting bacteria) and lastly the third type is direct transfer of DNA employing s*x pilus.

    These ways are never possible in eukaryotic cells so they remedy this type by crossing-over and gene shuffling during cell division especially meiosis.
