Outlook at Anfield: Things Still Clouded

This happens to be the moment of truth for Liverpool. The new chairman of Liverpool Martin Broughton is up and ready and Rafael Benitez hasn’t wasted anytime to engage in talks with him. Yes, there is definitely a lot to talk about at Anfield.

The issues are from all over the place. They range from the manager to the players, from the new home to the new signings. Everything needs to be overviewed and Benitez will make sure about that. After all, his future is at stake too. At the moment even his outlook at Anfield seems clouded.

Juventus currently are offering Benitez an agreement for the next four years. With that they are offering Benitez £16 million for the term and are consistently coercing him to give the answer quickly. The clubs plays at Serie A and is presently at the 7th in the table.

The Spaniard will have to give in some serious thoughts and question Broughton about the funds accessible to him so that he can recreate a new squad. It will be no surprise that this will be needed to get done as the current stature of the club just doesn’t seem that heavy in the class department in depth.

That issue left aside there is another trouble looming over head and that is the number of players that are unhappy with the club’s present performance. This season the ‘Reds’ have given a disappointingly low performance at all levels for reasons all over the place.

There most prominent despondent star would without a doubt be Fernando Torres. He has been riddled with injuries, bad luck and poor performance this season and now that it’s apparent that the Club won’t participate in the Champions League next year, he will probably acknowledge a transfer. There are rumors of him moving to Manchester City.

He earlier said, “We need four or five top-drawer players to be able to compete. I want to fight next year to win the Premier League, to win the Champions League or the (Europa League) but new signings have to come for that to happen.” He added, “What is really important is the Club to make an effort and bring in top players to improve the quality of the squad.”

The Spanish star, Torres is not the only one to be discontented. The circumstances have led other players to think over the same issue as well. Yossi Benayoun is having second thoughts also. He confessed that he might leave at the end of the season.

About the future the Israeli also said, “It is difficult to speak about a next season, as we don’t know what changes there will be with the players or the staff.” He later added, “I don’t know whether I will be here or if I won’t. In a few weeks we will know better.”

The Brazilian midfielder Lucas was also dejected about the situation. He commented on the current scenario as unclear and admitted that other players were also thinking along the same lines. He said, “Everyone is aware of the doubts over Rafa’s future. But we do not know what is going to happen.”

For Benitez to stay it will be very important to sign in new blood so that he can retain the lost glory. Broughton knows that the Club is under a debt of £200 million but he hasn’t given any immediate plan of action for it. This is also the reason for Benitez’s restlessness.

Right now Benitez is in a contract with Liverpool FC till the end of June 2014. The situation about Benitez is so much unclear that his agent Manuel Garcia Quilon conversely said, “We have not received any offers from any club. Benitez’s aim is to remain at Liverpool and try to help the team improve with new owners.” About the contract he added, “He is under contract and his wish is to remain at Liverpool.”
