Outrageous bill!?!?!?

OK....somehow, someway my roommate ran up a $700 cell phone bill. Are there any sort of options for her, payment plans, or anything? I mean, do they really expect her to pay $700 in 2 weeks??? Thats not very realistic. I know she made a mistake, but it just seems a little crazy that if she doesnt pay $700 in 2 weeks then her ccredit is screwed.

Are there any options here? Can she make payments or anything? If she needs to geive them $700 then basically we cant pay our rent!!

  1. If you call the service provider, you should be able to work something out and retain service --but you MUST keep the lines of communications with them open and keep whatever promise you make to pay in any payment agreement they make with you.  Are the charges due to some misunderstanding of costs associated with different services?  They may offer a good will credit of some sort ...this will all depend on the circumstances.

  2. WOW!  You've got a gabby roommate!  lol  I think if she calls them and lets them know she can't afford to pay it all at once, she can set up an arrangement with them....as long as she doesn't charge up another month of outrageous calls again, and has made her previous payments on time.  It is VERY realistic that they expect her to pay the $700 in one month, because she used the time.  Another thing that is very realistic, is the fact that she was not responsible about using her cell phone.  If she plans on calling them for payment arrangements, tell her to do it soon, so it doesn't look like she's waiting until the last minute to let them know she can't pay it.  Good luck to her....and to you!  Hopefully you two will be able to pay the rent.

  3. If the bill is due in 2 weeks and she doesn't pay, it will not affect her credit.  She would need to be at least 30 days overdue on her bill in order to be reported to a credit bureau.  The best thing would be for her to call the phone company and explain the situation.  She should pay $200 per week until it is paid in full.

  4. This is one of those, " It's her own fault " situations.

  5. Rent comes first. Rent will mess up both of your credit scores. My sister ran up a bill that high from going over our texting limit. Maybe she should take out a loan or something.

  6. Um, yes is the answer.  They do expect her to pay in two weeks, why wouldn't they?  She made the calls and the phone company gave her the service she asked for.  They want to be paid for their service.

OK, she made a BIG mistake, it happens.  She should call them right away and get on some payment plan they will offer her.  Just make sure that whatever she agrees with, she can follow through with.  If she can't pay what she promised, then they have every right to expect FULL payment immediately.  Then her credit will be marred.

    Good luck to her.  Ouch!

  7. most providers will work out something if you call and speak to some one.first to ask why is the bill so much and how to avoid.is there a mistake and how to work around it.the best advice will come from the provider.maybe a deferred payment will help.or a change of phone plan.

  8. PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY!

She must pay her "STUPID TAXES!"

She screwed up, she HOPEFULLY has learned from it, and she had better get a hold of the Cell company and arrange for PAYMENTS while her phone is LOCKED UP!

NO ONE NEEDS a CELL PHONE!

    They are a LUXURY!

She ABUSED that Luxury and can't pay her bill.

    TOO BAD!

She'll have to make arrangements, pay them off and what other fees.

TRUST ME, There WILL be EXCESSIVE FEES if she just IGNORES THE Phone Company!

Her ONLY Hope, ands she MUST get it in writing, is a PAYMENT plan, and FOLLOW IT!

  9. She needs to call the company and work something out. If she does nothing and doesn't pay it, it'll be worse..

  10. Tell her to call the cell phone company.  They may lower the bill (a very little) or give her payment options.

  11. Well, she/ you need to decide whether you need cell phones or a place to live.

    Which is more important?

  12. she can talk to the financial manager on her account and they can bump her plan up tot he next one. say she pays 50$ for 1000 minutes for her plan. if they move her up a couple plans... say 120$ for 5000 minutes, then she should only need to pay that 120$, but it should continue to be her contract as such. the same applies to unlimited texting

personal experience taught me that. mine was 462$ only paid 140$

  13. Why wouldn't they expect her to pay the bill???? If she went to use the phone, & it didn't work, she would be complaining about bad service!!!! Well when she used the phone, it worked, she used the service, now she has to pay for it. It's time for her to grow up, & be a responsible adult!!!! It really is that simple, in real life you have to pay your bills!!!! She should call her carrier, & set up a payment schedule. Also if she was using internet, get the unlimited data package, or just use computer for internet. She just learned a life lesson, & an expensive one at that!!!!!!!!!!
