Outside AC uni not working.?

It was making a loud noise and then the next morning the fan wasn't on and the whole unit was hot.

Sounds like your fan has quit or your compressor has died,either way call an ac tech out to look at it.It may also be that you have a coolant leak,either way call someone out to look at it.

when it started making the loud noise you should have shut it down.  sounds to me the condenser fan went out or locked up.  your air conditioner then was not able to get rid of the head and the compresser then quite  if its an older unit or a cheap unit you may have took out the compresser.   you could try to replace the fan motor first and see if the unit comes on.  I would recomend calling a tech.  they would be able to tell if the compresser is now bad due to over heating or if there is a safty that is open like a high pressure switch or an internal overload on the compresser.   Good Luck!
