Question:

Outside lane drivers?

I know that it has been asked many times why some car drivers insist on staying in the outer lanes on motorways etc, but could we have some answers from people who do it as to WHY they do it. I'm not talking about when there are vehicles to be overtaken, but when the inside or middle lanes are empty as far as you can see why stay in the outer lanes? They are not 'fast' lanes, you look a complete fool and it is against the law. The only reason I can see is one of complete arrogance or lack of driving skill. Either way it must be very embarrassing to be one of these drivers.

  1. it's a case of ignorant inconsiderate people who don't know the rules of the road or are to busy talking to notice that they are holding the traffic up

  2. Some studies have been done in this regard.

It was found that most of the people who deliberately blocked the outside lanes of motorways and dual carriageways did so for the feeling of power.

It was found that they are, without exception, sad dull people, with a boring existence, menial jobs and depressing home lives.  They only way they can have any influence or power over anybody else at all, is to block other traffic on our roads.

    Sad, but true...

  3. We have a fast car, we like to go fast sometimes

But then again, its better to go in the slow lane, so you and your nice car can be seeeeeeen, its also safer. Mostly we just drive at 65 in the slow lane, people like to look at our Jag =]

You know what, Britain needs more lanes, how about 6 lanes per direction, everybody is a winner

  4. Some 'pr1cks' do it to keep others at the limit. They will drive at exactly 70mph in the outside lane for miles, with the other lanes empty and they'll honk their horn or shake their fist if you dare to undertake them. These prats are a menace and should be banned.

I don't mind middle-lane hoggers as much (although they too are a pain) as at least you have the option of legally overtaking them. Outside-lane hoggers force people to undertake illegally.

Who gave me 2 thumbs down?...all the other answerers seem to agree with me?

Haven't the thumb-downers got the guts to put their case across?

  5. i agree with rolyn the first answerer. i only sit in the outside lane when there are several cars/lorries to overtake. i dont sit in the outside lane just for the sake of it. why wont people read the highway code?

  6. I usually get there and back without anybody being able to pass me because I like to get there and back as fast as possible. Its not arrogance or lack of skill and I dont really give a toss what it looks like, I dont want to spend most of my time stuck on my @rse travelling. Go ahead thumbs down if you like.

  7. PERSON ON TOP OF ME IS RIGHT,

SOME DUMB PEOPLE (WOMEN MOSTLY) LIKE TO STAY IN THE OVERTAKIN LANE DOIN 30MILES PERHOUR, THEN I GOT OVERTAKE THEN AND CUT THEM UP AND SCARE THEM THEN PUT MY FINGER UP THEN THEY USALY LEARN, SO THICK SO PEOPLE

  8. Some of them feel they're being righteous by limiting the speed others can drive at.

Others feel powerful by doing so.

Some actually enjoy irritating other road users.

Lots of them are simply oblivious to everyone and everything around them.

Some probably feel they're being criticised when traffic builds up behind them and indignantly refuse to move over as a matter of principle.

Either way, they should all be shot.

  9. most old people get in those lanes and mess things up. i stay in the fast lanes and i am sure glad they are not there once in a while you find one . they will not move like they are controling traffic speeds. i hate suv's and pickups in the fast lanes also, they can not be seen over or around to see when traffic is slowing or stopping. i stay at a high speed i am not one of them

  10. It's even worse on a 2 lane motorway.

I think they do it cause they assume the right lane is the fast lane and the left is for slow/lorries only, it's very annoying.
