Outstanding performances at the Paris Open 2011: Day two - Recap
Several impressive performances were put forward by swimmers on day two of the Paris Open meet 2011, held in Paris, France, on June 26, 2011.
Brazil’s Cesar Cielo dominated proceedings in the Men’s 50m freestyle, while Netherland’s Femeke Heemskerk took home the crown in the Women’s 100m freestyle. In another interesting battle, France’s Camille Muffat secured the title in the Women’s 400m freestyle.
Cielo came out strongly in the Men’s 50m freestyle meet, as he won the event with an impressive time of 21.66 seconds. More importantly, Cielo beat his previous record of 21.73 seconds set back in May, 2011. The win also moved him to top spot in the international
swimming rankings of the current year.
Despite his scintillating effort in the Men’s 50m category, Fred Bousquet retained his fastest time of 21.36 seconds, which he set back in August, 2010. The French swimmer touched the finishing wall to stand on the second spot on the podium after he posted
a time of 21.78 seconds. Moreover, he was able to beat his March’s time of 21.82 seconds in the respective race.
Ukraine’s swimmer, Andrii Govorov, snared third place honours in the following event was with a time of 22.04 seconds and jumped to sixth spot in the international swimming rankings, this year. The fourth place in the meet was captured by American swimmer,
Nathan Adrian, in a time of 22.26 seconds.
In the second exciting event, Netherland’s swimmer, Femke Heemskerk, snagged the Women’s 100m freestyle crown with a winning time of 53.60 seconds and moved to 16th place in the world rankings. She was unable to beat the fastest time of 53.61
seconds, posted by Fran Halsall in May, 2011.
The second position in the Women’s 100m freestyle meet was grabbed by Russian swimmer, Veronika Popova, with a time of 54.86 seconds. Earlier, Popova posted the fastest time of 54.22 seconds in the respective meet in April, 2011.
German swimmer, Silke Lippok, ended her race third in a time of 55.09 seconds. She settled for the second spot in the Women’s 100m freestyle prelims meet with a time of 54.81 seconds.
Camille Muffat of France snatched the Women’s 400m freestyle title with a sterling time of 4 minutes and 03.23 seconds, to also elevate to top spot in the world rankings. Rebecca Adlington of Great Britain had set the record earlier, with a time of 4 minutes
and 02.84 seconds in March, 2011.
French swimmer, Coralie Balmy, captured the Women’s 400m freestyle event with a time of 4 minutes and 08.25 seconds, whereas, Melanie Costa Schmid of Spain earned bronze in the respective meet with a time of 4 minutes and 08.26 seconds.
