Question:

Oven, Fridge/Freezer not working. Electrical? Coincidence?

I'm not sure if it's amotor problem, an electrical problem or other, but...

My refridgerator (and freezer) seems to be malfunctioning. When i opened the door, the light only slightly lit up (it's a 75 watt bulb, not a three-way-bulb) but is not shining at it's normal brightness. The fridge and freezr combo also seem to not be cooling at the moment. I hear no motor running etc.

Also, my electric stove/oven seem to be receiving ZERO power, but that appliance runs on a different circuit... no circuit breakers have been tripped...

any tips, suggestions are fully appreciated!

  1. don't think its a coincidence.

    call an electrician pronto

wouldn't want you to get fried trying to check it out yourself

  2. Doesn't sound like coincidence.  Any other electrical problems in your house?  Sounds like low voltage such as a loose connection on your main breaker or electrical meter or your main breaker is going bad.  If possible, measure the voltage on several outlets around the house.  At your oven you should be able to measure 120V AC on both legs to the common and 240V AC across the two hot legs.  If you don't try tightening the connections in your breaker box (be very careful as they are hot wires so you might want to call in a pro at this point).  If it isn't a problem in your breaker box it is probably at your meter.

  3. You have a bad connection on one of your lines.  Call the utility company first to see if the problem is on their wiring, they will not charge normally and an electrician will.
