Question:

Oven failed to work; F5 error message

We used this oven, which came with the house we just bought, once with no problem. But the second time, while heating up, it started beeping and flashing the F5 error message. I tried to clear it and reset the temperature, but the only thing that happened was that smoke seeped out from the top edge of the control panel--an acrid, burnt-plastic smell. We turned the power to the oven off and on a few times but the error message and beeping continued so we cannot now use the oven and must light the burners manually. The manual says F5 means "failed circuit in control". Does this mean the control panel burned out? Should we just replace this four-and-a-half-year old oven/stove? Thanks for any advice.
