Oven roasted tri tip? almost 3lbs/ how to?

I want it to taste like its been done on the grill outside.

Only bake it in the oven, what temp?

Is that possible?

If so how?

How long to bake?

  1. To get that "grilled" taste in the oven, you're going to need one of the new "grill seasons" that companies like McCormick/Schilling have available these days......

    For a 3 lb. tritip, I like to roast mine at 450 for 20 minutes, then lower the temp to 350 F and cook till you like it, about 25 minutes per pound......(past medium on a tri tip will result in a dry roast).  If you have a meat thermometer, insert it into the roast and then there is no guess work.....For 7 bucks, they're a great investment, and can make the difference between a perfectly done roast and a disaster......Enjoy!!!  Don't forget to let the roast "rest" for about 10 minutes before carving it.....
