Over And Above to be dominant in the Malone Conditional Jockeys’ Novices’ Handicap Hurdle at Newcastle
The Class 5 Malone Conditional Jockeys ‘ Novices’ Handicap Hurdle is to get staged at Newcastle over three miles on Friday, 30th March. Taking part in the £1, 689 event are six four-year and older thoroughbreds. There is hardly an entry that has
not raced at Newcastle but none have won there.
The one who raced at Newcastle most recently is Over And Above, Overbury’s six-year-old bay gelding out of mare Rose Gold. He is winless through the two starts that he made during the 2012 season.
Over And Above’s second start of the season was in the Guinness Novices’ Handicap Hurdle on 17th March at Newcastle over two miles and six furlongs. Failing to claim the race, Over And Above ended fourth on the lineup of sixteen.
The race was won by Velvet Vic who was riding with James Davies and had Donna Elvira finishing as the runner up with Robert McCarth onboard. Settling into the third slot was Mia Matriarch.
The 5/1 favourite of the race, Liscahill Karella, was the second last horse on the track.
The last time that the six-year-old won was on 1st May 2011 at DAWstown in the Dairygold and Castle Hotel Blarney 5YO Geldings Maiden. With D. L. Queally riding, Over And Above dominated the track of five.
Ever since then he has not won a single race and has tormented himself through the spell of six nonstop failures. It is high time that Over And Above makes the most from the chance that he has got at his hands today and transform the third seasonal outing
in a win.
An entry who can turn out to be potential threat and needs to be looked for is Stormion, Flemensfirth’s seven-year-old bay gelding out of mare El Moss.
He has been active five times during the new season and has already availed his chance of claiming a race but not at Newcastle.
Stormion won the Scottish Leader Handicap Hurdle on 9th March at Ayr over three miles and half a furlong while riding with Campbell Gillies. He won by an amazing twelve lengths and cornered No Way Hozay into the second place.
He is in for the sixth outing of the season and if it will turn into a victory or not cannot be said just as yet.
