Question:

Over Population anyone else worried about it?

It seems to me the biggest problem facing mankind is overpopulation. There are too many people in too small a space with to little natural resources. Crime, global warming, wars, polution, animal species extinctions, less open space, and dimishing moral values are all direct consequences of over population. I'm not sure how we deal with it, but this is the 800 pound gorilla in the room that no one is talking about.

  1. I think this is the case.  Stephen Hawking says that we have about 100 years, that we need to survive before we are technologically advanced enough to leave the planet and begin populating the rest of the solar system.  With that in mind, we should focus on these problems at hand.  I think the biggest threat to us now is the threat of self-annihilation.  Hawking makes a good point at the end of the video I've listed as a source.  He says reason why we haven't been contacted by extraterrestrials is because once a society reaches the point we have they are intelligent enough to know that we must figure it out on our own.  Its scary.  But, only way to change it is to change people around you.  If your worried truly about his problem, then focus on becoming an opinion leader in your area to help deal with the issues at hand, and help people become aware of what you are thinking.  I think your question is a good start to something greater.  Keep it up!

  2. I completely agree, and there is a higher death rate than birth rate too, whoich means its only going to get worse. I know it may sound awful to say this, but there is such an aging populaton due to madical advancements that aren't always good for the whole, however good they may be for individuals. But what can we as individuals do about - I propose a cull of all chavs!

  3. Sure we are, where you been. How about in the USA-the gov gives you $10,000 for the first child, $5000 for the second but charges $35,000 for the third and $80,000 for the fourth, $100,000 thereafter.

  4. NO, I find it useless to worry about something you can't do anything about. You can't get people to stop having baby's.

  5. Yes u are right over population is headed to war on an unimaginable level. The data predicts that the break point is about 10 billion. In order to get things under control we will need to kill about half . That could be the avalanche effect to carry the survives back to the stone age.

  6. China limits married couples to two children each (what happens when a farmer has a girl is another 800 pound gorilla), In India where Mother Theresa was there to 'help' but she also taught (preached) what she believed to be the sins of birth control and those living in an impoverished h**l on earth kept having babies.  Here in America we chose to crowd ourselves. I have traveled this vast land from San Diego to New York City, from Portland to Miami, most of whats in between in empty and habitible but we chose to crowd ourselves around resources (work, food, church, school, family) and not spread out.

As much as I share your concern on over population I can't help but wonder if the greater problem isn't unequal distribution of assets with CEO's making hundreds of times the wages of their workers, US importing goods from places where the laborers earn in a month what we earn in less than a day.  When we pay the highest fuel prices ever as the oil companies make their biggest profits ever, where the Trumps of the world own so many buildings and people in Darfur may own none while they hide in the bushes fearing for their lives.
