Question:

Over Pronation?

I was wondering if there is any way of seeing if you over pronate just by looking at your shoes. I can't go to any running store right now and I'm trying to figure this out on my own. Thanks in advance!

  1. yes i have over pronation too. so does my mum. and worst i'm a ballet dancer, so it's terrible. my best advice for you is to buy a slightly more expensive pair of shoes that fits perfectly and can support you feet too. it's best that way.

  2. Look at the bottoms of your shoes and look at the wear pattern.  Are they worn towards the outside edge?  Are they worn towards the inside edge?  Look at the heel inside and outside edges.  Overpronation typically wears at the front inside edge.

Best thing to do is to try to correct this.  This should be done via changing form rather than buying shoes (depending on the severity of course).  Shoe places will typically sell you an expensive pair of shoes.  This is like buying a brace because you arch your back when you lift something heavy.  Better thing to do is to learn how to do it properly.

    Good Luck!

  3. The easiest way of finding out is called the wet test. The wet test involves examining the print left by your foot after a bath or a shower.

Under Pronation: Small print thickness between the ball of the foot and the heel

    Normal Pronation: Normal " "   " "   " "

    Over Pronation: Thick " "   " "   " "
