Question:

Over and under rope?

I do gymkhana's & barrels & I'm starting to use an over & under rope on my horse but the problem is i can't get to it quick enough to use it going home (or anywhere, i just mostly use it coming home.) I was wondering if anyone has any suggestions? I tried tucking it behind my leg, but still i struggle to pick it up in time.

Thanks!

  1. when i use an overunder, i would do a few different things.

one: i would hold the tail end in my right hand the whole pattern, and when i needed it running home, i would simply open my hand, let it slide through, and use it.

two: i would put my hand through the loop that is supposed to be used for the saddle horn and do it that way. (only if it was short enough to do it comfortably)

three: i would leave it on the saddle horn, and when i was running for the third barrel, i would grab for the saddle horn, slide the overunder through my hand as i was turning the third barrel, and use it running home.

four: i would use a jumping bat or crop instead, and hold it the whole time. (easiest but doesnt look as cool hanging on your saddle haha)

hope you find something that works! =]

  2. i have found that instead of using an over under whip its easier to just use an english crop...and you can stick them in the gullet of your saddle...
