  1. The problem with this theory is that it's impossible to prove. IMO, they are not over-diagnosed. They are simply more tests, better tests to show that a person has an LD, etc. People who had these problems in the past would have gone undiagnosed. Thus, the rise in diagnoses.

I am the perfect example. At 46yo, I can remember being in a very progressive district in grade 3. I was among the first children in that district tested for dyslexia. That was the only thing that was tested for at that time. Now, I know that I have LDs and other issues that affected my learning. I have an above average IQ which compensated to a certain extent, as is common still.

Also, in areas like Autism, it is now being recognized that there are different levels of Autism from the full blown deal to Asperger's to Non-Verbal Learning Disorder.

These are the things that have affected the rising number of children diagnosed.

  2. you can't be serious.  you are a grad student and you are trolling yahoo for your sources?

Look at your school's psychology research database (usually there's some "online resources" link on your library home page) and find some particular journals, or a journal database that seems like it might contain relevant information.  Then do a term search of the journal/database, using words that would probably occur in an article that's relevant to your topic.

  3. Search for BDs in black males.  This is usually the biggest % of discrepancy.  Did you look on the CEC website?  The college probably has other means of searching through journals through the college library website or by visiting them in person.
