  1. use it always it will save gas.... mostly above 45 mph it will kick in its another gear is all it saves gas.... you its not any good  when  your towing going up a mountain or driving in rush hour traffic

  2. Over drive is simply the highest gear or range of the transmision it is typicaly used on the hyway or any place that you can maintain  the sutable speed for that gearing range, regarding the fuel consumption no it dose not burn more typically less because  the higher gear range allows the engine to run at lower rpm's

  3. i drive in over drive all the time

  4. OD saves gas.

You leave the AUTOMATIC tranny in OD all the time.  It will go in and out of OD automatically.  It is for hwy cruising.

The only time you manual leave OD is when you are on hwy with long up hill (and probably full load).  In Penn, they have mountainous hwy. Some hwys are up hill for some 5 miles.  You will hear the engine and the tranny really struggle.  You might even have the tranny slip after few minutes.

That is about the only time you want to leave OD.

    Good luck...
