Question:

Over priced items at garage sales?

My mom and I go "garaging" on weekends sometimes, and we usaully find some neat, in good quality, items for a reasonable price. Such as a bakers rake for $15, if bought new the price would have ranged anywhere between $60-$70. However it was used, old, and scratched in a few places. so the $15 was exactly how it should have been priced. However there are some people who have GS and charge a sh*t load for their used crappy items. Its like they dont really want to sell it. I dont know. Do you know what I'm talking about? Do you know what makes them think their junk is worth what they mark? Do you over price your items? When we have yard sales we charge resonable prices, sometimes even we go lower then what its worth, because their used items. Even junk stores such as GoodWill they were selling a bed room set for $500 dollars, which was broken in many spots. And there was a sticker from the person who donated it who tried selling it they priced it for $150. how does this make sense?

  1. I  have  also noticed  this  at  thrift  stores,  but  they  do  have  overhead  to meet. I  worked  for  Amvets  many year  ago.  And  as  time  goes  on they usually  mark down.   Also  I  try  to  be  friendly with  GS persons  and  ask if they  will take  less.  and  also  leave  my name, number, if  does  not  sell and  try  again  for less.  Sometimes it  works  out,  sometimes  not. Also  dropping  back  by at  end or  near  end on  last  day  works  also.    *mamatx

  2. I agree. In my area the reasonable priced items are few and far between anymore. It seems the "yardsales" are trying to compete with the local discount stores. With gas prices it is begining to make more sense to go to a one stop shop and pay retail.Hey at  least you can take it back, if need be!
