  1. Yes, there is a set number that you can get a ticket for.  It's any number higher than the speed limit, including 1 mile over.  that's the whole point of having a speed limit.  If you are unable to stay at the speed limit, then just drive under it.

Now will you get a ticket for doing one mile over?  Probably not, although it can happen.  Every officer has a number in their heads, and they won't give a ticket for going slower than that (like going five over, ten over, etc).

The only time I would even pull someone over for doing one mile over is if I needed a reason to stop someone...like that gut feeling is telling you that something is wrong...perfect way to investigate.  Even then I haven't done it yet.

  2. cops generally won't even pull you for going 5 mph over..i wouldn't worry, just be careful at the end of the month when the cops need to dish out some tickets

  3. Most traffic cops are not that anal. Unless they are fresh out of the academy.  Generally, they won't bother you for 10 mph over, since they generally take off 5 mph for any differences in the radars calabration.

But, if you are doing anything that is suspicious, patrol cops can use any speeding as the reason to run your plates to see if you have any warrants or stolen vehicle. Its what  cops call "fishing".

  4. They ussually only give tickets if your 10 over the speed limit, unless your in a school or construction zone they don't want you speeding at all.
