Over the recommend tension?

I recently bought a new racket because I broke my old one. I was getting my old racket strung at 65lbs which was the highest recommended tension for that racket. The highest recommended tension for my new racket is 60 but I went ahead and had it strung at 65 anyone know if what affect this will have on the racket if any.

  2. High Tension = More Control of the ball

    Low Tension = Less Control but more Power

    I chose Mid tension... Control and Power (half half)

  3. You're only a few pounds over the max rec tension, so you should be fine.  Now, doing so will void your warrantee with some brands, but I'm not sure how they'd prove that you strund it too tight.

    Sampras was the king of stringing above tension limits.  He strung his racquets around 75 lbs, where the rec tension was a little over 60, I think.    Sure, he did break some racquets because of it, but he was way over.

    So the risks? Like I said, you could void your warrantee.  You will also break your strings more than if you did string at 60.  I can almost guarantee that.  As for damage to the racquet, it's possible.  Let's just say that stringing at a higher tension makes it more likely that extreme stress will break it.  Like accidentally letting go of it at the bottom of your serve so it goes straight into the court (happened to me once, got lucky the racquet didn't break).  Or if you slam it on the ground in anger.

    If you use it and it feel kinda dead, string it a little looser.  It's possible that it won't even feel right at that high of a tension, just cause it's not made to be used quite that high, where you other one was.

  4. Most pros string at really high tension but for a recreational player 65 is somewhat high depending on your racquet i would probably say about 55 would be a nice tension for you. And depending on the string 65 tension string might break sooner.

  5. I am not sure but I should think a little over the recommended tension should be ok, maybe 10lbs max as the tennis manufacturer is probably being safe in their recommendation.

  6. Try hitting it flat against a power hitter and see if your racket withstands the tension.
