Question:

Overcoming fear/doubt as runningback?

Hi, I'm playing runningback for the first time in HS as a junior, and I've realized that I don't go 100% into the designated hole. I just take careful, slow steps and bring my head up when I see a linebacker coming at me.

Part of it is doubt that the JV linemen will actually create a hole against Varsity defense, and that the JV fullback will actually block Varsity linebackers.

Part is fear that when I go through a hole, the JV linemen will fail and I might twist an ankle

Many times when I get tackled at the line of scrimmage, I know that if I had sprinted through the line and juked a linebacker I’d have gotten a touchdown.

Is there any tips that would help me mentally? Any mental preparations I can do? Or am I just not aggressive enough?
