Question:

Overcoming negative thoughts?

by  |  earlier

Every time I do something incorrectly, or make a silly mistake I immediately jump to "I'm so stupid" or "WOW! I can't believe you just did that!" But the thing is, I'm also afraid to ask for help...I guess to me asking for help is a sign of weakness and unintelligence. How do I push past these negative thoughts and realize my full potential, and that I truly am smart?

**Serious answers only please!!** thanks :)

  1. If you were really smart, you would realize you can't know everything about everything, which means even smart people constantly run into situations where they do something 'incorrectly'.

Actually, not asking for help or knowledge is not a good way to go about being smart. If you don't know the answer, (see section above) how are you going to find out about the answer so that you can understand it, absorb it, mesh it with your other levels of expertise, and thus increase the areas you are 'smart' about?

The anxiety and negativity sound like something other people have made you feel. Other people have made you feel dumb or 'stupid' and because you don't remember them doing that to you, that impulse comes out as you doing it to yourself, you calling yourself stupid. Also, if people have made you feel stupid before, then they also probably wanted you to do things to keep you stupid, like making you afraid of asking for help. Can't be smart, or be made smart, if you are too afraid to ask for help or knowledge from someone who does. Alot of dumb people pass on their 'dumbness' to others because, if others are dumb, then they can't see how dumb the person is they are with.

Intelligence means seeing what others don't want you to see, and that takes strength. The smarter you are, the more you see. And the more you see, the more you want to see, even if it means asking others for help.

  2. wow i am exactly the same as you... except i do ask questions to someone when it doesn't make sense... remember it's not like they're gonna hurt you if you have a question...

  3. sounds like anxiety to me...I had to be prescribed meds to calm mine. Now 3 years later I'm off the meds and don't really have it as severely as I once did.
