Question:

Overgrip w/ replacement grip?

Last summer I bought some replacement grip and I re-gripped my racquet myself and I accidentally put it on backwards. I am planning on purchasing some more and doing it right this time. I am getting the thicker/gel grip because it fits my hand better. The question I have is should I get some overgrip to put on top of my replacement grip?

  1. If it is too small, certainly. Personally I size all of my grips down by an 1/8 so I can always put a fresh overgrip on (meaning replacement grip + overgrip = my ideal size).

You can do a grip check with your hand and your index finger. Grip the racquet as you do normally and try to insert your index finger in the space between the tips of your fingers and the palm of your hand (that're resting on the racquet). Your index finger should fit in barely touching the tips and palm.

If it won't fit at all the grip is too small and if there is space on either side the grip is too big.

  2. if the replacement grip is the right size and it feels good, don't change anything.

  3. If you feel the grip is a little small, then put on an overgrip.  If it feels perfect to you, don't put on an overgrip.  Good luck :)
