Overloading my amp?

I've got a Kicker zx300.1 2-ohm amp and two Kicker Comp VR dual 2-ohm voice coils) 12"s. What will happen if I wire them up parallel/parallel so that I only have a .5 load on my amp (1/4 the load it's designed for)? I've also got a second zx300.1.. is there any way I can wire up my subs and both amps at 2ohms so that I can utilize the full power of both amps?

  1. Kicker amps can be "strapped" to one another using the wire that comes with them so that the amps can be used a one bigger amp (the wire looks like it has simple headphone type connections on both ends)

if you wire the subs to present a .5ohm load at the amp the sound quality will suck and the amp will run hot as he**, you might fry the amp and the subs

your best bet would be to wire each sub up separately to each amp and give them 300watts RMS a piece, the only down side is that you would need to use more power, ground wires as opposed to strapping the two amps (plus its easier to tune the amps)

  2. I would suggest to NOT wire both amps to both speakers at the same time. If you want to run them parrelel, just make sure the amp is "2 ohm stable" first. I would just run an amp to one speaker each, kinda like a monoblock amp style type of set up.
