Question:

Overlock sewing machine problems in West Yorkshire?

Is anyone around Huddersfield/Wakefield/Brighouse willing to give me some help on threading the machine up please. I'm at my wit's end - the manual is hopeless. I'm new to overlocking and can't even get started.

  1. EDITED TO ADD:  I've put up some threading photos of my old machine -- hope it's close enough to yours.

    http://www.picturetrail.com/kkl1234 -- albums are Pfaff 756 threading, albums 1 through 5.

I concur -- take it back to the store and don't leave until you can successfully thread it from scratch by yourself, no prompting, both rolled hem and straight overlocking.

That machine looks remarkably like my old Pfaff 756.  If you cannot take it back for service for some reason, I could take photos as I'm threading it, if you think that would be of any use.

  2. Joy's do have a bit of a reputation I'm afraid.

Try this link as they are really friendly with lots of experience

    Good luck.

  3. Lesson to be learned here about Joys (but that's another story!)  Anyway, the pics Kay has are excellant! Arm yourself with a pair of tweezers, basically as everyone has said, start from the far right, giving each cotton a gentle tug to make sure they go through the tensions (make sure your foot lever is up first!). They are usually colour-coded and you should be able to follow this easily. If not, do look at Kays pics, far short of being there, I doubt you'll get a better description!

  4. HI Hon!! and I do sympathize with you. I use 2 pair of long nose tweezers and a pair of magnifying glasses to see the overlock links.

Mine is a Bernina but the threading of all of them proceeds from the thread at the far right first and should have a colored trail to follow?

If you just flat cannot get it threaded, take it back to the shoppe and have them show you again how to do it, then!!!!

go to http://www.realknots.com/knots/bends.htm and tie the new spool to the old thread by the Weavers Eight bend on the above page. Learn this bend and it will save you a huge amount of hair pulling in the future. You may never again have to completely thread the monster again.

They are lovely machines and do fantastic time and savings, but are so very aggravating.
