Question:

Overnight stay in a parking lot WITH friend?

A good friend of mine is coming to visit from out-of-state, and we're going to stay in my car overnight. I've done a little bit of research and the Walmart near here allows over night parking. My only worry is that the police will see a man and woman sleeping in a car together and get suspicious. Is there some way to handle this? Has anyone else tried this? How did it turn out?

  1. That sounds like a dangerous idea. Not only can cops find you, but people who want to hurt/rob you can see you there too. Parking lots weren't meant to be slept in.

  2. I've never tried this, but I can't imagine there would be any problem.  Even if the police do see you and do think it's suspicious, what are they gonna do?  "Uhh, you folks can't sleep here."  Thats all.  They probably wouldn't even do that.  I wouldn't worry about it, as long as it's just for one night and there's overnight parking.

  3. Hotels are so much more comfortable ... and more private.

  4. why would you do this?

  5. Walmart allows overnight parking for semi's and campers, not personal vehicles.  The police would have every right to worry and I would expect them to stop and check you out.

  6. if the wal mart allows overnight parking, i dont think anyone will bother you.

  7. It is simple...... if an officer sees people sleeping in a vehicle anywhere they are going to roust all in the car. There do not care one whit about policies or anything. They will ask all in the vehicle for IDs.

Odds are they will find something to bust you for. If they don't they will tell you that you need to move along. The Walmart policies are for RVs and trucks. Not a couple of people sleeping in a personal vehicle.

I am an adult with multiple IDs and all of that. If I was so tired that I couldn't drive and pulled into somewhere for a nap..... and the cop rapped on the window I would still have some explaining to do. But the officer would probably just say OK.

But in your case he will run ID, ask questions and determine that you are local. So why are you not at home? Why did you not get a hotel room. It will take a bit of time to run the out of town persons ID. It could be enough to charge you both for something and even search the car. Man and women in a car in a parking lot......

Its time for you to come up with a new plan.

  8. not sure why you would sleep in your car, and not a hotel....

  9. You may ask Walmart for some type of paper worked needed to stay there, see what there policies are.

Don't tell them there will be a sleep over in a car but say yopu have relatives from out a state and they wish to use the parking lot.  They do have cameras viewing the parking lot at all times..
