Question:

Overpopulation: Got any solutions?

For our Economics project, my groupmates and I decided to do a paper on Overpopulation. I've done some research on the web and I can't decide what the BEST solution is.

So, I'm looking for a solution that's effective and 'uncontradicting' to the church (they sure threw a fit on the 'two-child policy' in the Philippines).

Any ideas? Please support your answer?

  1. The birth/death rate in most Western countries is 0%.. That's GOOD. In Third World nations, especially in Africa, the population rate gets up 228%.. The solution is: education and protection.

  2. Aside from education programs to teach people what the consequences of overpopulation will be, I'd say let nature take its course.   Nature has a way of reducing an overabundant population by limiting the basic resources that population needs.

In the 1960s or 1970s (it's been a while since I read it), a man named Paul Ehrlich wrote a book called "THE POPULATION BOMB".  Many of the basic assertions in the book were incorrect, but the general premise was that an excessive population would eventually reduce itself by consuming all its necessary basic resources.

The idea is that the overly abundant population would run out of water, food, fuel, etc.  People would starve to death, freeze to death, not have enough water, and disease would kill off many without the most basic proper diet, not to mention how many would die in the wars that would be fought over possession of the limited remaining resources.

I know it sounds harsh, but we already see some of this happening in various places around the world.

  3. Population control programs have found the most effective way to limit births is to give women opportunities  outside of the home and to improve the survival rate of existing children. All forms of birth control fail unless women do not want more children. Since they are the primary caretakers better opportunities  increase the effective "costs" of additional children and the insurance of extra child  is not necessary if you know the ones you have will survive to adulthood.

  4. educate people. migrate where the place have low population. try to teach this balancing

  5. try reading Jonathan Swift's  - a modest proposal, it might give you angle to approach the problem from. it talk's about a solution to a famine. but overpopulation can cause famine.

  6. Snip Snip.......depending on which church you are talking about.

  7. use a ******* condom

  8. A possible solution is to make it very expensive for people to have more than one child.  By doing so you are not telling people they can't have more than one kid so it should not contradict anyones belief.   You could start by imposing an annual charge or tax increase to those who have more than one child in densely populated areas.   For areas that are not as populated then the charge could either decrease or go away.  In this way you motivate people to move from the big populous cities to other parts of the country less populated, thus bringing balance.   For every child over the limit the tax or annual charge would go up.   Another things to consider is welfare, a lot of people who can't afford to have many kids do so since the state pays or subsidized the cost of having many kids, not saying get rid of them but they should be cap.  The assistance should be giving for say 1 kid if people choose to have more they will only get assistance for one kid regardless of how many in the family.   Education, and planning help but those are long term solution and very hard and expensive to implement in less developed countries.

  9. The government is already trying to control the population. Sad, but true. Just look at the ingredients in our food. Aspertain is a substance that the Germans used in concentration camps to suppress the Jewish minds. They did everything they said without rebelling. In all diet and artificial sweeteners contain Aspertain. It makes you tired and bloated, unhealthy. Same thing with High Fructose Corn Syrup, Sucrose, and Dextrose.

Also, the government control the weather. There are so many topics about overpopulation. Maybe you should do your project on how we are already in the process?

  10. Don't do it!!

  11. If we were populating evenly in  the world we would fit. Its just that people would rather live in California than in Montana. Everyone wants to live in the same city! Move to Oklahoma there is plenty of space there. We need to make more parts of this world livable.

  12. Maybe we'd better try to tell those bishops how shameful it is to deny the crucial importance of birth control for human race while our ability to feed newborn babies is significantly falling.

  13. i would limit the amount of children people are allowed to have, start enforcing the death penalty, and ration food and other important items. Basically just conform to a communist government where everything can be controlled seeing as people are two stupid to know what's good for them. it may not seem right but it definitely works
