Overrated centre Andrew Bynum’s ‘charm’ keeps working on Los Angeles Lakers – NBA Report
The Los Angeles Lakers’ line-up and coaching staff is facing enough problems without the interference of owners, Jim and Jerry Buss. Jim Buss has turned out to be quite influential regarding decision making for the franchise –
this explains centre Andrew Bynum’s lingering presence on the roster.
Andrew Bynum, no doubt having given great moments of appreciation, is simply overpaid amongst the other Lakers stars. Who hasn’t given scanty cherishing game play in their career? Well similar is the case with Andrew Bynum. Bynum
is mostly seen on the screen due to great size, not great game. Lakers’ front desk needs to make a move and stop hoping Bynum will suddenly start giving match-winning performances overnight.
Dwight Howard can be the solution for Los Angeles Lakers’ problems. He is looking forward for a trade soon, and willing to work his magic in the Staples Centre. This could be a chance for the Lakers to actually have someone around
more often, uninjured. Currently, the Lakers are left to make do with Theo Ratliff in the centre when Bynum is not available – which is quite often.
Bynum missed 160 games in his six-seasons with the Lakers due to injuries. What a waste of valuable space when centres like Howard are available. Plus at the same age as Bynum right now, Howard (currently 25-years of age) was averaging
20.6 points per game (ppg). Bynum only makes it up to 11.3 ppg. The centre player’s main focus is towards blocks and rebound. Howard can take good care there; he averaged 13.8 rebounds per game at the same age as present Bynum. In contrast, Bynum’s 9.4 rebounds
per game seem quite lame. Howard is a perfect trade.
Despite all these flaws, what is it that does not let the Los Angeles Lakers get rid of Andrew Bynum? Other than being the biggest man on camp, there is hardly any use of Andrew Bynum.
To top it all, recent rumours state Lakers Captain, Kobe Bryant, is not happy with the Andrew Bynum-Pau Gasol duo. The couple was not seen having any chemistry on the court, also affecting Bryant’s game as a result. Where considerations
to trade Pau Gasol are under way, it would be more beneficial for the franchise to knock sense into Jim Buss and trade Bynum instead. That would be a change – something the Lakers desperately need.
Lakers should do ex-No. 34 centre Shaquille O’Neal some justice as well and find a better replacement to him – one of, if not only, the best centre of the era.
