Overseas players need to shoulder more responsibility: Sangakkara – Cricket News Update
Deccan Chargers’ captain, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/KC-Sangakkara-c1779, has advised the overseas players in his squad to do justice to their additional responsibilities, further reckoning that all will need to absorb a greater deal of pressure, which in turn will help the relatively
inexperienced domestic players to flourish.
“Overseas players also need to understand their responsibilities and absorb the majority of the pressure. That is why most of the imports are international players and capped huge number of matches,” the skipper pointed out.
“Overseas players have to share the responsibilities and the younger Indian players should be allowed to play freely and enjoy their game and find their places in the side and get that self belief in them,” he added.
The Chargers' squad includes foreign imports such as http://www.senore.com/Cricket/DW-Steyn-c1409, Rusty Theron, Cameron White, and the skipper himself. The most successful overseas player for the Chargers so far has been Steyn, who has managed to take
11 wickets for the team in the 7 matches he has played so far. Theron has played only one game for the Chargers so far, against the Pune Warriors on April 26, during which he claimed 2 for 37.
Sangakkara recently dropped himself from the squad for a game against the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Mumbai-c820 Indians on April 29 owing to a batting slump which saw him posting scores such as 14, 1, and 12. However, he made an impressive return to form in the Chargers’ last victory
against the Warriors, during which he posted an individual total of 82.
Speaking about the team’s upcoming clash with the Chennai Super Kings today on May 4, the skipper was optimistic, saying that while their opponents were a strong unit, the Chargers would be looking to play to their full potential.
“They have great combination in both batting and bowling … if we do play well as we know we can … we can win against any team in the tournament,” Sangakkara said, adding that the course of T20 games could easily be changed by a single over, or a mistake
by the opposition.
The team is currently at the bottom of the points table, but 2 recent victories against the Pune http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Warriors-c861 suggest an upward turn for the side who have been losing consistently from the start of the season.
