Overseas study fever to Vietnamese students? what do you think?

I hope I’m interpreting your question correctly by assuming that you want an opinion on why so many Vietnamese students want to study abroad instead of in Vietnam. One reason in my opinion is the difference in the quality of education.

It is very impressive to some extent in how effective Vietnam’s formal education system is (Vietnam has one of the lowest illiteracy rates in the world). However Vietnam’s advanced education system (colleges & universities) is well behind more developed countries. For example, my wife’s degree in international business from her college in Hanoi is the equivalent of a two-year associates degree in California. She’s very intelligent, but Vietnam doesn’t have the academic resources in allowing her to excel. This is one of many reasons why Vietnamese students prefer to go to foreign universities instead of a Vietnamese school.

Also – living in a non-communist country has it’s perks!
