Overseas volunteer agencies?

Question

I want to do volunteer work overseas (I live in the UK) but do not want to go through one of these agencies that charge hundreds of pounds for the privilege. I am happy to pay for my flight and work for nothing (of course) in return for shelter and a little food. Does anyone know of any organisations that genuinely need people to go to developing countries and help out?

do a google search on "overseas volunteering" and look into all thr organisations that come up. You are right to want to make effective use of your money.  Some charties charge you the earth to volunteer for them, others just need the administrative cover.

So you want some organization to pay for your long distance over seas airfare without knowing who you are and if you'll stick around once you get there?

Last time I checked the UK still had voluntary military service I'm sure there is a place for you in Afghanistan.
