Question:

Overstayed in UK and returning to home country?

I am a US citizen and have been living in the UK for the past. However, I am now ready to go back to the US and was wondering what the minimum and maximum problem I will encounter when leaving?

Also, my US passport expires next month which means that I would have to apply for a new one. Will the fact that I have a new passport without an immigration stamp cause any major problems when I am leaving??

  1. you shouldnt have any problems coming back to the US but you could have trouble if you ever try to return to the UK...you might not be allowed. but getting back here should be fine.

you should be fine with the passport because the new passports are electronic now.. but i'm not sure!

  2. You don't need a new passport to return to the United States.  You can come back on an expired one if you like.  You only need a new one when traveling abroad with less than 6 months left on the current one.

First, you are no longer eligible for the visa waiver program.... to the UK or any other visa waiver country.  It's my guess that UK immigration will have some record of your arrival.  They won't stop you from leaving, but they'll open a file on you and these files are shared by all the visa waiver countries.

  3. you should have no problems. The US puts no restrictions on how long you can go to a country over-seas.

Unless for some strange reason your US citizenship got revoked, you will have no problems!!!
