Overweight and en pointe?

Hi, I am overweight. I weigh 200lbs. I am a really strong dancer, I was wondering is it possible for me to go en pointe?

  2. its best not to. im over weight and i just got my first pointe shoes and my doc say i need to lose weight. i mean u can but u have to be really careful. good luck

  3. Your pic doesn't work, but it doesn't really matter. I would say if your instructor is letting you go on pointe then you are fine. I have seen girls who aren't thin go en pointe, and they just have to work a bit harder. I say go for it!

  4. nope, it would be too much weight on your  ankles  which  would  1.  be unsafe 2. lead to later problems with feet/knees

  5. If you have been trained well and your feet and technique can support your weight then yes you can go on pointe without injury. There is even a company in Britain called the Big Ballet Company where all the women are required to be over 200 pounds. They are on pointe. The reason for this company was to prove that overweight people can be just as graceful as thin people.
