  1. Please tell me what ovo-lacto means.

  2. Lacto-ovo-vegetarians include dairy products and eggs in their diet but not meat, fish or seafood. This is the diet most commonly thought of as vegetarian. However, some cheese is made with 'Rennet' which is the scraped stomach of a baby cow so yes you can eat cheese as longas it's the kind with no rennet.

  3. That depends.  Many cheeses are made with animal rennet therefore is not considered vegetarian.

  4. Yes you can. I am an ovo-lacto vegetarian and I eat regular cheese:)

  5. a lacto ovo vegetarian and that means no eggs no dairy products because of the milk you could try soy  cheese

  6. There are 'regular' cheeses that can be 'vegetarian'.  For most vegetarians, they don't want any parts of any animals that has to do with the death of the animal - for cheese - that would be some rennet's.  But not all are animal based.  You would have to check with the one that makes the cheese to be sure.

There is also soy cheese - some of which I found to be pretty good.  Personal choice.

There are also a host of sites online that will point you to the different cheeses that are not animal based.  A search engine like say - Google - will give you more sites that you can imagine.

It is a personal choice that one makes.  If your making the choice only from a diet standpoint - no ethics involved - then such wouldn't be a problem for you.  For others - it would very much be a problem.

Vegetarian covers a wide spectrum of ways to eat.  Some include both eggs and dairy - as you suggest with your question.  Some add only dairy.  Some only egg.  Some don't add either.  All are vegetarians.  Some prefer not to add either and add additional limitations in that they will not eat anything from an animal that many other vegetarians will eat (such as honey) - and that they will not wear anything from an animal (wool, leather, silk, etc).  They prefer to be called 'vegan'.  But again, these very same choices are the same ones that many other vegetarians make.

Again - it is about personal choices.

  7. Just research brands that are lacto-ovo safe (no animal by products that came from the slaughter of the animal ie. rennet). Dairy is nasty, I eat it, but I try to do it as little as possible. I suggest you try soy cheese if you can.

  8. Yes you can. Ovo-lacto's eat eggs & dairy.

To the two who said you can't, this is why most ppl mock vegetarians, cos too many take it up without basic knowledge. Being V or V is actually hard work!

    Search "types of Vegetarians"

To the person who doesn't know ovo-lacto,

Ovo=eggs (plural of egg, which is ova)

    Lacto= Dairy

  9. "Ovo-lacto" means that the person partakes of eggs (ovo) and milk (lacto) products. As far as regular cheese goes, supposedly they aren't  to consume it because it has an animal enzyme used to make it which is obtained through the killing of an animal.

  10. All vegetarians are ovo lacto. one that is not is a VEGAN. And yes you can eat cheese, but some cheeses have rennet in them which is an animal product.

  11. yep :)

  12. no.

they dont drink milk, eat cheese, butter, eggs.

    anything with by products.

    and especially no meat.
