Ow!! New skates! Got bruises on my ankle! What do I do?!?

I had my skates broken in chemically*Afraid of blisters*, so it wasn't as painful as before in the foot area before. But now, my ankle has got some bruises! It's almost impossible to bend my knees because of the pain! What should I do? I can't afford bunga pads, so I just wear longer socks and double them up at the top. By the way, my shoes are Silver Star *Riedell*, just in case you need to know. Thanks!

  1. BUNGA PADS!!!!

  2. I'm sorry, but your just going to have to wear bunga pads. I don't think you want to buy new skates. Just save up money until you can afford bunga pads.

  3. there's something called "lamb wool" and i'm not sure if it's actually lamb's wool, but it is really soft and really helped me break in my skates

  4. Do your skate fit properly? Were your skates fitted by a pro shop? Have you had your skates heat molded? What level of skater are you? Breaking in skates is a painful process that just takes time and lots of skating. Try skating for shorter periods of time, and re-lacing your skates often. Also don't lace your skates up all of the way, leave one or two hooks at the top unlaced it will help you be able to bend easier in the skates. Try using round cosmetic pads to to help prevent rubbing of your skates. Good luck!

  5. omg....

    look,

    you need to

    break into them

    its only doing that

    because they are

    new,so break into

    them before you do

    any competitions

    or anything

  6. keep using them - it's just that they are new and have never been used

even if they were chemically broken in it may just take a few times for you to get them completely broken in

good thought about doubling up different pairs of socks! =)

i know that your skates were made very well and that they were [probably] expensive

just keep doing what your doing - if they still hurt after skating on them for about 10 ice practices then if it was me are i'd go to "pro-shop" or "the little shop" in your ice rank they should have people in there that know what they are doing or ask your coach/instructor/teacher about it or you can go back to the store you got your skates at and tell them about your problem. thre  pro shop can make the ankle area bigger so you can have more room in general or you can put pads, nothing special but sponges or wash cloths or wool from animals(something like that) and make your ankles feel better

you could try sleeping in your skates - it may help but it could be painful and you might not get a good night sleep but you can try it *make sure you have your hard/solid gaurdes on and put them (your skates) under the matress. i tried it, it helped but it was uncomfrotable and for  me i think just skating on them borke mine in

good luck with your skates and hope your ankle and anything else that hurts you feels better oh yeah and don't do any competitions or ice shows

P.S. If you really want/need bunga pads do chores around the house or you make a service like a carwash or lawn mowing service or baby service

  7. Ask the pro shop to punch them out a little at the ankles. You also might try makeup pads, those circular ones, placed in your sock right at the right spot.

I've heard neoprene is the best substitute for bungas (that's wetsuit material) but it's hard to get a hold of.  It will get better the more you break them in, and breaking in skates is frankly a *****!

  8. heres a skating trick.

    put your HARD guards on

    (after drying extreemly well)

and sleep with your boots under your mattress.

    works wonders.
