  1. Not certain if you can do this via either vista or XP. They both have parental controls, and content advisors, but it really depends on what it is you want to block.

I have a router that performs the task of blocking websites simply by entering the URL of the website onto the router. These types of routers can be expensive though.

Vigor 2820 - many many features...

  2. I'm going to assume you are using Internet Explorer?

There are a couple things you can do here:

Click on TOOLS and go to INTERNET OPTIONS (this can also be accessed from your computers control panel)

In the Tab that says SECURITY there will be something that says RESTRICTED SITES, click there, and then you click the button that says SITES. Add in the site you would like to block.

In the Tab that says PRIVACY you will click the button that says SITES click there, then you add in the site you want to block. Then click the button that says BLOCK.

Also, sometimes with Vista you have to be the administrator to make changes. I'm not sure if this is the case here or not as I am not tremendously familiar with Vista.

In addition to this, I know you said you would prefer not downloading anything, but if you do not have anti-virus I would like to recommend something to you. If you go the the website for AVG anti-virus you can download a free version which will help you greatly. I'll provide the link, and all you need to do is download and install it. This will help w/ blocking websites and pop ups and all that jazz.

Really hope I could help. Good luck.

  3. Why don't you go outside and play?...

  4. Here's what I do to block my sisters from certain sites. Works everytime!

-First you need to get on the Admin. account.

    -Then go to the following:

    My Computer > (H:) > WINDOWS > system32 > drivers > etc > HOSTS

-Open HOSTS with Notepad or Wordpad.

-You should see something that looks like this after a couple paragraphs of text:

    000.0.0.0 localhost

Of course, it won't all be 0's, it will be several different digits.

    -Copy the digits ONLY.

-If there are already entries, scroll all the way down to the bottom an paste the digits, followed with a tab, then type the URL of the site that you want blocked.

    Ex:

    000.0.0.0 google.com

    000.0.0.0 www.google.com

    -Save changes and X out.

    THE END
