  1. I believe the race is only about 1.5 (or 1.29) miles..so the race is very quick.

  2. Well it is the fastest 2 minutes in sports.

  3. 2 or more minutes. it also matters how long the track is and how well the turf is.

  4. In l973 one of the Greatest Horses that ever raced called - Secretariat - won the Kentury Derby setting a new track record for this race of l.59.19!

Secretariat went on to win the Preakness as well as the Belmont Stakes - winning this race by 25 lengths!

But to answer your question the race usually takes a little over 2 minutes from start to finish wire - depending on the pace and the condition of the track.

From Wire to Wire in this race with the horses listed to run and the fast conditions of the tract I would venture to say that this race Saturday will be about 2.02 + or - a split second.

  5. The Derby is traditionally called "The Fastest Two Minutes in Sports"...

Not what you asked, exactly, but interesting just the same, right?

  6. the derby is a mile and a quarter and horses generally run it a couple seconds over 2 minutes.  I'd say from the moment the gates open to the moment the first horse crosses the finish, it'll probably be 2 minutes and 2 to 4 seconds.  and the last horse will cross before 2 minutes 10 seconds.

  7. About 2 minutes, sometimes slightly more or less, depending on the horses which are competing. That is why this race is called the "Most Exciting Two Minutes in Sports", by the press.

  8. Anywhere from 2:00 on up, depending on pace.
