Owais Shah credits bowlers for Rajasthan Royals win – Cricket News Update

England batsman, Owais Shah, has credited the Rajasthan Royals bowling attack for having enabled them to secure a 59-run victory over the Royal Challengers Bangalore in their recent match at the M Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bangalore, on April 15, 2012.

The Royals won the toss and chose to bat first – a decision which served them well as they went on to post a substantial 195 on the board courtesy a spectacular 103 off 60 from Ajinkya Rahane and Shah’s 60 off 26. Both batsmen teamed up for a 121-run stand
which anchored their team’s innings, enabling them to post a challenging target for their opponents.

However, Shah is of the view that the score was not high enough to guarantee his team a victory, and the pressure fell on the bowlers to restrict the opposing batsmen.

“I felt we had a very good score, but not an amazing score…,” Shah said. “I think the batting conditions were good and our bowlers, especially Pankaj Singh, Siddharth Trivedi and Amit Singh, did a good job.”

“I stressed the point to Rahul [Dravid] and our bowlers that the total was good but not amazing enough to defend and hence we have to be clever or else we will lose the game,” he added.

While the Royal Challengers’ batting line-up boasts formidable names from the international cricketing stage, such as Windies batsman Chris Gayle, South Africa’s AB de Villiers, Kiwi all-rounder Daniel Vettori, and India’s Virat Kohli, the Royals’ bowlers
are relatively unknown – Pankaj Singh is the only to have played for the Men in Blue, while Amit Singh and Trivedi have only ever played for domestic teams.

Despite this, Pankaj Singh (4-0-18-2) and Amit Singh (3.5-0-43-2) both chipped in with sizeable contributions, and Trivedi was the star of the Royals’ bowling attack, claiming 4 for 25. The Royal Challengers were all out by the last over, having managed
to make their way up to 136, which was still 59 runs short of the target.

“That's the beauty of our team,” Shah observed. “We don't have too many big names … It is for the guys to get on with the team and work ethics required to win games.”
