Bolton Wanderers manager Owen Coyle has revealed that he is delighted to see skipper http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Kevin-Davies-c20716 back scoring goals again after a brief goal drought.
The 34-year-old http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/England-c749 international opened his scoring account for the Wanderers again against Macclesfield in the third round of the FA Cup at the Reebok Stadium. After a spell on the bench, Davies was given a start in the FA Cup fixture, having been
on the bench for the Premier League games.
Manager Owen Coyle admitted that the period had been frustrating for the skipper but felt he had handled it well. According to the Scottish boss, it was extremely important for a striker to score and Davies was on the way up, having found the back of the
net in the FA Cup fixture.
Coyle said while speaking to reporters:
“It is always nice to be in amongst the goals because it breeds confidence, and I think Kevin certainly enjoyed it.
But it is about more than just goals in terms of what he brings to the team, and I think he did that, particularly in the first half.”
According to Coyle, goals resulted in the strikers’ gaining confidence which is why it was necessary for Davies to maintain his goal scoring ways. The manager felt if Davies could retain his form he would soon find himself returning to the starting XI.
The manager swiftly denied rumours that Davies was heading towards a Bolton Wanderers exit. He confirmed that while Davies had been dropped for the younger and quicker David N’Gog, he remained the club captain and top striker. It was highly unlikely that
the English striker would leave the club any time soon and it was a possibility that he would retire at the Reebok Stadium.
Coyle continued:
"He is our captain, he is an integral part of the club and nothing changes in that.
He will have been disappointed of course - as one or two others will have been - not to have been in the starting line-up of late, but we have changed the system and http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/David-c10409 Ngog has been playing terrifically in that lone striker role.”
