Owen Coyle, the Bolton Wanderers manager, said he believed the Trotter’s skipper http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Kevin-Davies-c20716 had been trying too hard to help his side out of the relegation zone.
The manager had to make the tough decision of leaving out the 34-year-old captain from the clash against Blackburn Rovers, which proved to be the right choice in the end. His side secured a much needed 2-1 win over the Rovers.
They are currently now second from bottom in the English Premier League, and Coyle feels that he made the right decision. However, he admitted it was a tough one and was made keeping in mind the fact that his side were in the relegation zone going into the
Christmas period.
Coyle felt the striker had been taking on too much responsibility, which had been affecting his performance. It was for this reason that the Scottish manager decided to rest the talented striker, to give him a break before the Premier League schedule got
even more hectic.
Coyle said while speaking to reporters:
“Kevin has been trying too hard. He is Bolton through and through and I know what this club means to him.
He has taken extra responsibility as captain and is trying to do everything himself. It detracts from his terrific strengths.”
After the win over Blackburn http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Rovers-c40385, Bolton Wanderers have some relatively easy fixtures at the Reebok Stadium coming up. After they take on Newcastle United, they face Wolverhampton Wanderers and Coyle is aiming for wins at the home ground.
He admitted it was not easy to deliver results in the short term, but revealed he was aiming for good results in the long run. Unlike Manchester City, Coyle revealed his side were unable to buy their way out of trouble which made their journey out of the
relegation zone tougher.
Coyle revealed:
“It has not been easy and everybody has their opinion. It is hard to tell people what we are doing for the long-term because in football, the short-term is the be-all and end-all.
But if we can get that short-term fix we will be in the best position we have ever been.”
