Owen Farrell guides Saracens into a second successive Premiership final - Rugby News
Owen Farrell played a vital role in Saracens semi-final victory over Gloucester 12-10, as he scored on four penalties and his late try in the dying moments of the game proved decisive for his side on Sunday, May 15.
While the fly-half Farrell, had a tremendous display of excellence in the front rows, Namibian flanker Jacques Burger, played equally well in the defending lines for the Saracens. Jacques Burger blocked the Leicester’s attacks on quite a few times in the
match to secure the 12th consecutive victory for his side.
Mark McCall, the director of Saracens’ applauded the pair for their brilliant performance for leading the club second successive time into the final. Talking about the teenager, Farrell, McCall said that he was very impressive in the field and his performance
helped them to victory. His competitive play on the field guided the team in the hard fought battle.
He added, “It says everything about Owen Farrell that he missed a couple of kicks at goal and he is the guy who wants to put his hand up to kick the winning penalty. He has been incredible for us over a six-month period. He has guided the team to this run
of victories we have had and he did that again today.”
McCall argued that we were playing well during the first half but lost the momentum of game in the second half. The Saracens were reduced to 14 men in the second half as touch-judge Peter Huckle sent Steve Borthwick off the field. He went on to comment that
it was a crucial and controversial decision from the referee.
Meanwhile the director also praised his back rower Burger and said, "Jacques embodies everything we are about in terms of physicality, work rate and discipline. I thought he was extraordinary today, especially in those last 15 minutes. I don't know how many
tackles he made but it was a lot."
The final of the Premiership rugby will be played on May 28, at Twickenham between Saracens and Leicester.
