Owen Hargreaves could be included in Manchester City’s Champions League Squad – hints Roberto Mancini
Manchester City manager http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Owen-Hargreaves-c28918 could potentially be included in Manchester City’s Champions League squad.
Hargreaves signed for City in the summers on a free and this move surprised nearly everyone. However, it now seems like the midfielder could be on his way to become a regular feature for the Citizens.
Hargreaves started for City in the Carling Cup last night and apart from playing a solid, injury free game, the midfielder scored a brilliant goal.
This goal marked his return to the world of football and also gave him a massive confidence boost. On the other hand, Mancini seems to be more than just happy with what he saw and now feels that the player could be made a part of City’s Champions League
squad.
Mancini is quoted to have said: “I enjoyed it for him [Hargreaves], I enjoyed it for the team because we played a good game," Mancini told reporters after the game.”
“He’s a fantastic player and I think he can become an important player for us if he can play and train often without injury.”
During his stay with Manchester United, Hargreaves spent a majority of his career on the recovery table, as he seemed to be picking up and injury almost every time he stepped onto the pitch. However it now seems like the player might just have regained full
fitness and could see out the rest of his career at City.
Mancini was asked if the team had any injury concerns about the player, during the time he spent with the team. In response to that, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Mancini-c23323 responded by claiming: “No, in the last three weeks we’ve had no problem.”
“We decided before the game he would play 45 minutes, 60 minutes. He played 60 and I’m happy.”
The manager then ended by dropping a massive hint about the midfielder’s future as he concluded: “At the moment he is not in the [Champions League] list, in January maybe, it’s possible."
In order for Hargreaves to be able to participate in the Champions League, City are going to have to make it past the group stages and make it to the knock out stage of the tournament. Once that does happen, then City will have the option to include the
player in the squad, during the January submission of their team list.
All in all, it seems like moving to City was a rather smart move on Hargreaves’s behalf.
