Owen Hargreaves is set to return
Manchester United midfielder Owen Hargreaves is expected to return to Premier League action against West Brom on Saturday.
The English midfielder has been out of action since September 2008 after suffering from a severe knee injury.
The player has tried to make a number of come backs, but the midfielder’s knee has not held up in any of his attempts at returning to the game.
Doctor Richard Steadman has worked with Hargreaves during his long absence from the game and believes that the team around Hargreaves has helped the player come back from an injury that was expected to end his career.
"Our physical therapist, Luke O'Brien, has been working very closely with United's coaches on his rehab," said Steadman.
Alex Ferguson is expected to name Hargreaves as a substitute for the visit of West Brom and the player is likely to be given a huge ovation, if he is given the chance to come on at Old Trafford.
Steadman praised Hargreaves for his recovery and admitted, "It's been a long road back and there have been some setbacks along the way. But I've got a lot of admiration for the way Owen has responded. He's worked very hard and has never given up. Things
are looking good for him now."
The 29-year-old joined the club in 2007 for a fee of £17 million on a four year contract. Since then, Hargreaves Manchester United career has been disrupted with injury.
The player has not started a game since a league match with Chelsea in September 2008.
Steadman believes that Ferguson will give Hargreaves some game time this weekend and said, "Owen should play some part on Saturday."
Hargreaves will have a tough task in replacing the likes of Paul Scholes and Darren Fletcher in the United midfield, but his real challenge will be to remain fit and free of a knee injury that came close to ending his career.
