Stoke City striker, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Michael-Owen-c25355, has blamed Liverpool for all his injury problems, claiming that the Reds over worked him in the preliminary stages of his career.
The English International also said that the hamstring injury he suffered at Elland Road back in 1999 was not properly handled, and that he would have remained at the top of his game had he been managed more appropriately.
The forward’s comments have served to echo earlier remarks from Manchester United manager, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Alex-c4752 Ferguson regarding the player. The 70-year old Scotsman accused Liverpool for mismanaging Owen during his young age, pointing out that he was being over used.
The 32-year old, who was once considered as the most feared striker in the Premier League, made 297 appearances for the Merseyside club over a period of eight years, before joining Real Madrid in 2004.
Much to the disliking of the http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809 fans, Owen then joined Manchester United – the Reds bitter league rivals – in 2009, serving out his three-year deal at Old Trafford. He joined the Potters as a free agent in the summer.
Anyhow, the English footballer rested the blame of his injury-marred career on Liverpool.
He said that he would have been much a better player now had he nurtured under more able management, and claimed that his hamstring injury in 1999 was the turning point of his career.
“In my opinion, had I been managed differently I would have been at my best for longer as opposed to being a better player,” he told the reporters.
“As a youngster, I was considered exceptional and in many ways, that was to my detriment… I would play a full season with Liverpool and then I was jetting off to play for http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/England-c749, sometimes playing three years above my age group at the highest level.”
“My hamstring snapped in two and it was at that point that my ability to perform unimpeded was finished.”
Despite scoring 17 goals in 52 matches for United, the Red Devils refused to hand another deal to Owen. So far, he has only managed to make 4 league appearances for Stoke City this term.
