Stoke City striker, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Michael-Owen-c25355, has insisted that he has still got plenty of football left in him, and rubbished the notion that he has lost the desire to do well on the field.
The English International, who was once the most feared striker in the EPL, was signed by the Potters on the Bosman ruling this summer.
Earlier, during his illustrious career, he represented clubs such as http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809, Real Madrid and Newcastle United, before making a switch to Manchester United.
After serving out his deal at Old Trafford, the striker appeared in the transfer market as a free agent, and was linked with moves to http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Everton-c13019 and Stoke.
After months of deliberations, he finally opted to sign for the latter.
Over the years, Owen has been accused of having lost his hunger and desire to do well on the football field.
After all what he achieved during the primetime of his career, his current status in EPL was surely unfathomable for anyone who watched him play during the late nineties.
The 32-year old won back to back Premier League Golden Boot accolades from 1997 to 1999, and also claimed the Ballon d’Or laurel in 2001.
Even though Owen admitted that he has evolved as a player with time, he insisted that it did not come at a cost of him losing his enthusiasm for football.
He pointed that his circumstances had a profound effect on his career, but nonetheless, he always tries to play to his full potential.
“People evolve. Long gone are the days when I have little else in my life other than football. I'm now happily married and have the small task of bringing up four children,” he said.
“Inevitably, taking on these responsibilities requires a certain amount of time and effort but does that necessarily mean I have taken my eye off the ball when it comes to plying my trade? Absolutely not!”
“Nature has dictated I am no longer the player I once was. It's got nothing to do with dedication, hunger or desire.”
All in all, Owen has made 475 club appearances during his career, and scored 221 goals.
