English International, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Michael-Owen-c25355, has revealed that he wants to finish his career on a high at Stoke City, and defended his decision of moving to the Britannia Stadium.
The former http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809 player put pen to paper on a one-year deal with the Potters, after serving out his contract at Old Trafford.
During the summer transfer window, the striker was strongly linked to clubs such as http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Everton-c13019 and West Ham United, with some news also relating him to making a sensational return to Anfield.
However, despite failing to strike a deal with any club in the transfer window, Owen was signed by Stoke on the 4th of September on the Bosman ruling.
After experiencing multiple ups and downs in his career, the English International revealed that he wants to bow out of the game on a high.
He revealed that he was really looking forward towards making an impression at the Britannia Stadium this season, and was confident that he made the right decision of joining Stoke.
“I want to perform and I want to finish my career on a real high. I’m still only 32 and I still feel as if I have a lot left in me,” he told the reporters in an interview.
“This (Stoke City) is a team on the up, I know the manager and a few of the players and it meant I didn’t have to move my family as well.”
Owen has enjoyed an illustrious career, which now spans over a period of almost 16 months. About ten years ago, he was considered as the most feared striker in the Premier League. He won the Premier League Golden Boot on two occasions in between 1997 to
1999, and also secured the coveted FIFA Ballon d’Or accolade in 2001.
However, multiple injuries from time to time have had an adverse affect on the 32-year old’s game, who is now deemed by many as just a shadow of a player he once used to be.
Anyhow, Owen feels that he has still got a lot of football left in him. He was optimistic that given he does not suffer from any major injury, he can bring a lot of value to Stoke, and vowed to finish his career at the Britannia Stadium.
“I’ve always scored goals no matter what team I have been in, so as long as I can stay fit and healthy, then I’m sure I can do that here at Stoke.”
