Former Manchester United striker, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Michael-Owen-c25355 revealed that he only plans on playing for a Premier League team in the future, and was close to finalizing a deal with one.
The 32-year old completed his three year association with the Red Devils at the end of the previous season. Since United did not offer him a new contract, he is currently available in the transfer market as a free agent.
During his stint at Old Trafford, the player capped a total of 52 appearances and netted 17 goals.
According to reports, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Everton-c13019 and Stoke City are interested in signing him during the summer, with the former believed to be the favourites in claiming his services ahead of the coming season.
Owen confirmed that some Premier League outfits have showed their interest in him, and divulged that he was close to signing a deal with one of them.
While talking to reporters, he said: “Had a good deal of interest but just need to pick right! Can't wait to get going again.”
During his lengthy career, which now spans over a period of almost 16 years, the English International represented the clubs such as http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809, Real Madrid and Newcastle United. Besides which, he won the Ballon d’Or award in 2001, apart from multiple other
league laurels.
Even though the striker is not as valued now as he used to be ten years ago, he ruled out the possibility of representing a Championship team in the future. He explained that he had reached that stage of his career where he needs to enjoy playing his football,
but insisted that despite being 32 years of age, he has still got a lot to offer.
“Not being disrespectful when saying I wouldn’t play in The Championship. Always said I wouldn’t drop down the leagues like some have done.”
“I know I can still bang them in at the top level. I proved that nearly every time I played for Manchester United. At 32, still got a few years in me.”
Keeping in view the fact that the player has already spent a prolonged period at Merseyside with Liverpool, and Everton’s impressive form recently, it is expected that Owen will pen a deal with the Goodison Park team.
